BOXING INSTRUCTIONAL AND FITNESS PROGRAM Beginning / Intermediate Boxing This class is for anyone who wishes to learn how to box, or to improve upon boxing skills already developed. No previous experience is required, and new members can join at any time. We will be working on both offensive and defensive maneuvers and will use a variety of equipment and drills. This course is designed to be a fun workout for adults of all ages and will offer cardiovascular and strength training benefits. No contact sparring will take place. All participants must purchase their own hand wraps (available at SCAC for $10). BOXING FUNDAMENTALS CLASS This is a fun, high-energy course for adults of all ages, from the complete beginner to those with limited ring experience. We will learn how to throw punches, move effectively, increase speed and agility, and use defensive techniques. No contact sparring will take place. All participants must purchase their own hand wraps (available at SCAC for $10).
Anju Reejhsinghani was born and raised in Massachusetts. She learned to box while living in London. After moving to Seattle, Anju entered competitive amateur boxing, winning several titles and eventually earning the ranking of #1 amateur female bantamweight in the United States. She is currently a Ph.D. student at UT-Austin. Billy Geoghegan is a native of California. He began his martial arts training during childhood and went on to become a competitive kickboxer in the Seattle area. His specialty is Filipino martial arts, including Lucaylucay Kali (stick fighting) and Panantukan (Filipino boxing). He is a certified USA Boxing coach who has worked with an accomplished cadre of boxers in international, national, regional, and local tournaments. Anju and Billy owned and ran a boxing/kickboxing gym in Seattle before relocating to Austin. They are excited to be able to bring their years of experience and training in boxing to the South Congress Athletic Club.
